Your dream home could be 3D printed by 2020

The nonprofit agency New Story, has teamed up with construction firm ICON to develop a 3D printer that can construct a four-room house in 12 to 24 hours. Human-built equivalents usually take between 13 to 20 days to build, making this tech a game changer for 1.2 billion people who lack adequate shelter. The team plans on bringing the costs down from $10,000 to $4,000 per house and build 100 homes in El Salvador.

New Story's mission is "3D Home Printing For The Developing World", They have already successfully printed the first home. In El Salvador for the first community, this innovation will mean:
● $4,000 for one home
● 12-24 hours to print the home
● Better quality for families
"One billion people live without a basic human need: shelter. Linear improvements will never reach this market. We need a quantum leap in affordability, speed, and quality to reach families exponentially faster."

With ICON they plan on:
● Seeking $600k funding for the next phase of R&D by April 13th
● Seeking $400k of pre-funding the first community of 100 printed homes (for families in need) ever to exist by May 31st

The goal is to print homes in El Salvador in 2018 and finish the community of homes in 2019. Then democratize the technology to other non-profits and governments to scale around the world.

This could be a momentous project which could spell affordable housing and housing in general for the ever expanding human population. If New Story and ICON can get at least have of their vision fulfilled it can show and prove that 3D printing as well as the construction industry will make great leaps and strides before 2020. Who knows, maybe your children will be the first to own a 3D printed house.
