CHAPTER 5 — Whispering Fractures

(Manuscript Format — Third‑Person Limited)

Aria woke with a weight on her chest. So heavy, it felt like someone was holding her down. No fear, because it was just her. Same as always, No exhaustion this time. Something older. Something pressing against her ears as if trying to claw its way out.

Her vision swam as she blinked into the dim morning light filtering through the slats of her apartment window. Her room looked the same as always — small, spare, functional — but something in the air felt disturbed. Shifted. Wrong.

She pushed herself upright, rubbing her temples. Her head throbbed with a buzzing, rhythmic ache.

Her gaze drifted across the room.

The dust coated locket has a new gleam, slightly askew on her dresser.
Her jacket always tossed carelessly over the chair was clumsily, but intentionally, put together.
Her boots were angled differently than she remembered.

Small things. Subtle things.
Things anyone else would miss.

But Aria notices.
